In an effort to battle climate change (terroir change), France's Institut National de l'Origine et de la Qualite (INAO) has approved the addition of four red and two white varieties of grape to be included in the list of acceptable Bordeaux cultivars. The newly accepted grapes include:
two whites; Albariño & Liliorila
& four reds; Touriga Nacional, Arinarnoa, Marselan, Castets
These monumental changes are big news to a region that has long been the breeding ground for the world’s wine grapes & static in its regulations. Furthermore, adding more drought-resistant and heat-tolerant vines is a statement about climate change that should be a warning to all growers, as well as all of humanity.
